UEFA fines the Serbian Football Association 173,000 euros
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on Wednesday definitively sanctioned the Serbian Football Association with a fine of 173,000 euros and the partial closure of two matches, due to incidents that took place during two Nations League matches on 15 and 18 November when the Serbian team faced Switzerland and Denmark.
UEFA issued the official statement recalling several negligent actions that took place on 15 November, before and during the match between Switzerland and Serbia, including: lighting of flares, displacement of visiting fans, throwing of objects, damage to the Swiss stadium, racist and discriminatory behaviour, broadcasting of messages unsuitable for the match and the delay of kick-off.
UEFA has found that these disturbances should be fined and the amount is divided as follows: EUR 8,250 for setting off fireworks, EUR 25,000 for transmitting unsuitable messages, EUR 31,500 for throwing objects; EUR 5,000 for damages; and, EUR 50,000 and a ban on ticket sales to Serbian fans for the next two matches organised by UEFA.
This type of behaviour was repeated on another occasion. During the Serbia-Denmark match on 18 November, UEFA warned of racist behaviour, lighting of flares and pitch invasion by Serbian fans. For the latter two acts, the Committee decided to sanction the national team with 3,250 and 10,000 euros respectively.
For all these irregularities, UEFA has ordered the enforcement of the suspended disciplinary measure imposed on 30 October this year by the Appeals Committee, due to the repetition of this type of behaviour by the Serbian supporters. In addition to the financial penalties amounting to 170,000 euros, the Serbian Football Association's stadium will be partially closed, with at least 4,000 seats at the next UEFA match.
This is in addition to a fine of 40,000 euros for the association and the closure of 8,000 seats for an additional match, due to the discriminatory behaviour of Serbian fans in recent matches.
