Joan Laporta threatens legal action over the documentary ‘Laporta Gate’
FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has warned that he reserves the right to take legal action against those responsible for the documentary Laporta Gate - The Reus Case 2, which suggests that the club would have served as a placement agency to hide the bankruptcy of CF Reus Deportiu in 2021.
The documentary, which involves both Laporta and Joan Oliver, former general manager of Barcelona during his first term in office, has been branded defamatory by Laporta himself.
Laporta denounces manipulation and damage to his honour
In a statement sent to the EFE news agency, Laporta has pointed out that his surname has been used for propaganda purposes in the title of the documentary without his consent. He also accuses the audiovisual material of being ‘full of falsehoods, half-truths and biased information’, with the aim of damaging his image and that of FC Barcelona.
‘This documentary aims to address an issue that has already been dealt with in court, where I have given a statement exposing the reality of the facts, an aspect that has been deliberately hidden’, said the president of FC Barcelona.
Laporta also considers that this audiovisual work is an attempt to influence judicial proceedings, seeking to create adverse public opinion against him and the club he presides.
Possible legal action against those responsible
Given the seriousness of the accusations exposed in the documentary, Laporta has made it clear that he reserves the right to take legal action not only against the authors, collaborators and instigators of the project, but also against those who disseminate the facts in a slanderous and biased manner.
‘This documentary is an attack on my honour and the good name of my family and FC Barcelona. I will not hesitate to take the necessary measures to defend myself’, he concludes his statement.
