Laura Keily is a corporations and securities law specialist advocate, with the depth of technical expertise to advise on taxation; banking; insurance; reinsurance; construction; competition and consumer law.

Laura’s commercial experience combined with her subject matter expertise places her in a unique position to influence the resolution of commercial disputes, particularly high-value or high-risk corporate disputes with a complex commercial history, regulatory context, or difficult legal or technical overlay. Her expertise was recognised in recent appointments to the Law Council of Australia’s Committees for Corporations Law and Competition and Consumer Law.

Laura has more than a decade of experience as a top tier corporate lawyer advising boards and executives at the coalface. Accordingly, she has an extremely detailed working knowledge of law such as Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules, M&A, directors’ duties, shareholder remedies and meetings, contract, equity, trusts, corporate finance and insolvency.

Laura is a bold advocate who advises on the full gamut of business disputes, aiming to ensure the most commercial outcome. She will advise clients and their solicitors independently and directly as to how to achieve that outcome, whether that requires tenacious advocacy, diplomatic compromise, or negotiation with regulators.

Laura holds three first class degrees: Masters of Commercial Law, Bachelor of Laws (Hons), and Bachelor of Science. She recently completed a Graduate Diploma in Dispute Resolution and qualified as an international arbitrator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and is a Member of the AICD.

Laura was recently invited to be an inaugural member of the Victorian Bar Commercial Arbitration Scheme’s Panel.

Laura was a finalist in the Women in Law Awards in 2019 for Innovator of the Year, in 2016 and 2017 for Barrister of the Year, and in the Women’s Agenda Leadership Awards in 2016.
