Elizabeth Shearer

President at Queensland Law Society

I am a Director of Shearer Doyle Law. As a general practitioner - my expertise is in the everyday legal issues that impact on individuals and small businesses.

To help fill the gap that many people experience when trying to get access to justice, we also operate Affording Justice. This is an innovative model of practice providing advice and legal task help so people can take steps themselves to use the law to solve problems.

This sits alongside a specialist family law practice, Doyle Family Law.

I have been a lawyer for more than 30 years and worked in in private practice in large and small firms, legal aid, community legal centres, universities, and the public sector in policy and executive management.

I am the 2021 President of the Queensland Law Society and a Director of the Law Council of Australia.

I am also a Senior Counsellor with the Queensland Law Society and Chair of its Access to Justice and Pro Bono Committee, and a member of the Law Council of Australia Access to Justice Committee.

I am also a member of:

The Supreme Court Library Committee and Chair of its Finance and Risk Management Committee

The University of Queensland Pro Bono Centre Advisory Board, and

The Family Law Practitoners Association Qld.

My particular interest is in making quality legal advice available to individuals and small businesses. I see myself as a new style general practitioner solicitor, who can be a trusted advisor to navigate the legal issues of everyday life.
