Jones Day has announced the arrivals of former Federal Trade Commission attorney Lin Kahn as a partner in the Firm’s San Francisco Office, and former Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Huie as of counsel in its San Diego Office. Ms. Kahn is part of Jones Day’s Antitrust Practice and Mr. Huie will be part of the Firm’s Investigations & White Collar Defense Practice.

During her time at the FTC, Ms. Kahn’s high profile matters included serving as lead trial counsel in a seven-week antitrust conspiracy trial, resulting in a finding of liability and the issuance of a 15-year injunctive order. She led a team of experienced attorneys from across the FTC through a fast-tracked litigation schedule, directing the litigation strategy and case development plan. Ms. Kahn also played a significant role in multiple merger and anti-competitive conduct investigations in the consumer goods, pharmaceutical products, technology, and health care industries.

Prior to joining the FTC, Ms. Kahn was an associate in Jones Day's San Francisco and Los Angeles Offices. Her client engagements included representing a multinational software company in a nationwide antitrust class action alleging a conspiracy among high-tech companies to fix wages through no-poach agreements. She also won a full defense jury verdict for a hospital system in Santa Barbara, California, defeating allegations of an antitrust conspiracy and group boycott, and also litigated a wide range of civil actions, including a wage and hour class action and product liability matters.

Mr. Huie spent 12 years at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Southern District of California. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he most recently served as Deputy Chief of the Office's Major Frauds and Public Corruption Section where he was counsel of record in more than 700 criminal cases, which in addition to Major Frauds and Public Corruption, included General Crimes and Appeals. Mr. Huie's criminal trials included matters relating to fraud, bribery, money laundering, drug trafficking and border crimes, and threats to public officials.

Notably, Mr. Huie served as counsel during a U.S. Navy corruption investigation involving over 700 subjects, which a major newspaper described as “the worst corruption case in Navy history.” He also represented the U.S. Department of Justice as a diplomat and legal advisor at U.S. Embassies in Algiers, Algeria and in the Western Balkans, assisting foreign governments in the areas of counterterrorism, anti-money laundering, and criminal justice

Prior to joining the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Huie was an associate in the San Diego office of a national law firm, practicing business litigation before state and federal trial courts, including trademark, unfair competition, trade secrets, defamation, employment, contract, and other commercial disputes. After law school, he served as a clerk for the  Hon. José A. Cabranes, United States Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
