Baker McKenzie strengthens its Competition practice. Discover its new partner

---

Competition law is one of the areas most in demand by prestigious international firms. Baker McKenzie has hired Swedish national Sibel Yilmaz as a partner in its growing EU competition practice

"Sibel is a talented and experienced lawyer with a strong reputation in the market. I have known Sibel for a number of years and have always admired her energy, enthusiasm and professionalism. Her hire is aligned with our strategy to promote more women into the partnership and we are delighted to welcome her on board," said Fiona Carlin, former head of Baker McKenzie's Global Competition Law Practice.

Sibel joins from Linklaters in Brussels, where she covered all aspects of competition law and foreign investment within the EU, the Nordics and internationally. She has special expertise in healthcare, technology, private equity and other types of funds.

At Baker McKenzie, Sibel will divide her time between the Brussels and Stockholm offices, adding important bench-strength to the Firm's EU and competition law practice in Brussels as well as leading the competition practice in the Nordics.

"I look forward to being part of Baker McKenzie's incredibly talented team and to further develop client relationships on Baker's unique global platform, bringing my expertise in competition law and foreign investment to meet our clients' needs in the best way possible," said Sibel. "It will be inspiring to me to be able to cover the Nordic region and the rest of the EU from the offices in Brussels and Stockholm."

Sibel Yilmaz received her law degree from Stockholm University in 2006 and holds a European master's degree in law and economics from the University of Hamburg. She is a member of the Swedish Bar Association and registered with the Brussels Bar E-list.

She was included in Global Competition Review’s prestigious 40 under 40 list for 2020. Who’s Who Legal ranks Sibel third in the Future Leaders non-partner category for Europe and she is described as "a brilliant and promising lawyer, who is highly recommended for complex merger work” and “an exceptional talent”. She is ranked in Chambers in the “Up and Coming” category and described as "absolutely a tip for the top."
