Director Lawtons Africa – Business Restructuring, Rescue and Insolvency

He has acted for multinational corporations, local and international banks, business rescue practitioners, liquidators, creditors and listed companies. Gareth has advised these entities on expedited debt recovery mechanisms, debt recovery, business rescue, liquidations and commercial disputes.

Gareth has advised numerous companies and affected persons on business rescue, restructurings and liquidations, and has been involved in the recent past business rescues and subsequent liquidations of Basil Read, Woestalleen, Steval Engineering, CMC di Ravenna, PAM Fabricators and Double Delight, Stuttafords,  Bateleur Software, Blue Sky Logistics, Intertrans Oils SA and Intertrans Oil Rustenburg, Coleman Tunnelling Africa, BTS Electrical and Mechanical Services, Webbers Electrical, Palace Group, and Evraz Highveld Steel.

Gareth represents and advises on the commercial interests of the following entities: Standard Bank, ABSA Bank, Bank of China, Atradius Credito Caucion, South African Revenue Services; Santam Structured Insurance, Coface, Credit Guarantee Insurance Corporation of Africa, and BP Southern Africa.

Gareth has vast experience in banking litigation, re-structuring (formal and informal), cross-border litigation, forensic investigations and fraud, disputes between parties, regulation and compliance laws.

He has been involved in several matters before regulatory bodies and tribunals, among them, the Consumer Protection Tribunal, Competition Tribunal, Advertising Standards Authority and Civil Aviation Authority.

In 2012 he was appointed to the board of the Turnaround Management Association of Southern Africa and heads up the Disciplinary Committee.
